So why GreenFingers Urban Gardening Solutions?
Did you see this…. “President Muhammed Buhari this week ‘directed’ the central bank to cease providing dollars and other currencies to importers as part of his efforts to spur domestic agricultural production and attain ‘full food security’ for Africa’s most populous nation.” Check out the corrected full gist here
Though this isn’t the reason GUGS exists, we quote it to show the importance of being in control of what we eat because eating is one of the main means to survival. Procuring the food we consume is one thing, sustaining procurement is another.
To be the agent whose touch changes nature from a wild force to a work of art is inspiration of the highest order.

Food is a necessity, not a luxury and it should remain so. For me personally, I found that when I grew simple things like ewedu, ugu, efo, or even rhodo, it helped with the food budget for the month as I ended up having extra change.
Nigeria is well known for its northern tomato scarcities when the “need” arises, then there is the high cost of imported packaged foods, and then the adulteration of locally produced food – Oh! Which way forward, Nigeria?
Adulteration of locally produced items like gari, palm oil, beans, e.t.c. is a disease that doesn’t want to die off, thanks to greed and illiteracy (on the parts of the rural producers). The good news is that there are new, highly educated farmers doing their best to grow these, with organic practices, so that we don’t develop a health epidemic. Yes, they might be more costly to buy but they are cheaper for everyone in the long run.
So what can we grow to supplement the costs of getting wholesome foods from organic farmers in Nigeria? Only so much – vegetables, fruits, herbs, and tubers, we could even do mini animal husbandry. Urban agriculture is so diverse and also caters to those of us living in the very busy cities. We have small spaces on our balconies, window sills, patios, compounds, e.t.c. and they are not too small to plant food.
With some planning, budgeting, elbow grease and love, get ready to discover your own green thumb as we take you through the ways you can grow your food in your small space.
Let’s help you redesign your space and your lifestyle as you learn to nurture a plant so that it rewards you with delightful gifts.
And we have other exciting topics to teach you – mushrooms, fermentation, composting, soil building, storage practices, healthy cooking, and lots more.
We can’t wait to build this community of healthy food lovers.
